Email marketing for agencies: the best software for client accounts and white label

By Joonas Rotko, ex-agency co-owner, 10+ years spending real marketing budgets

Prices verified · How I choose, and how I earn from this page

Email marketing for agencies, on this page, means the software an agency uses to run email for its clients, not an agency you hire to do it. For about ten clients I'd start with Campaign Monitor: every paid plan includes client sub-accounts, private labeling and in-app client billing with your own markup, and one client account of about a thousand contacts costs $47/month billed monthly. ActiveCampaign is the stronger pick when automation is the service you sell. I checked every price on 19 Oct 2026.

Every price on this page is for one client account, for an agency with

  • about 10 clients
  • 1,000 contacts per client
  • priced per client account
  • 1 user per account

Who this is for. Agencies and freelancers who build, send and report on email for several clients, and pay the email bill per client or pass it on. The question is how each tool keeps client lists apart, whether the client sees your brand or the vendor's, and what one client account costs before you multiply it by your roster.

The tools side by side

Each row is the cheapest plan that holds one client account of about 1,000 contacts, except ActiveCampaign, shown at Plus, where automation actions are unlimited.

ActiveCampaign: I priced Plus. Priced at Plus because Starter allows 5 actions per automation.

Brevo: I priced Free. Free sends 300 emails a day and adds Brevo's footer to client emails; Standard removes the footer.

Six picks, in the order I'd consider them

Each one says who it is for, what it costs for one client account, and what you give up.

Campaign Monitor logo

Campaign Monitor

Best for client sub-accounts and white label

Desk research

Choose it if

You want every client in its own sub-account under one agency login, your logo and domain on what the client sees, and the client's invoice raised inside the platform.

Consider ActiveCampaign instead if

Your retainers are built on multi-step automations and lead scoring rather than campaigns. ActiveCampaign Plus is $59/month billed monthly for a list of the same size.

Why it fits one client account

Campaign Monitor's agency version puts each client in a sub-account with its own lists, campaigns, templates and reports, and users can be limited to the clients they work on. Private labeling, a markup on each client's price and invoicing in the client's own currency are ticked on Lite, Essentials and Premier, and every plan has unlimited users, so a growing team never adds seat costs.

The plan I priced

One client account of about a thousand contacts on Lite is $47/month billed monthly. Lite caps automated emails at your send volume; Essentials removes that cap. Self-serve prices stop at 50,000 contacts per account, past which the plan goes to Contact Sales.

Closest alternative

GetResponse becomes the better choice when you would rather resell sub-accounts at prices you set through a partner programme than mark up the vendor's own plans.

One client account: Lite

Billed monthly

$47/mo

Above 50,000 subscribers: no bigger plan is published.

The trade-off

It costs more per client than the cheapest tools here, and the annual discount covers direct accounts only, so an agency pays the monthly rate.
What my review says

Best for: An agency running campaigns for several clients that wants each client in its own sub-account, its own branding on the client view, and client billing in one place.

Skip it if you only need one list for your own business, since the agency features add nothing there and cheaper single-list tools exist.

Strengths

  • Sub-accounts, private labeling and client markup on every paid plan, from Lite up.
  • Every plan includes unlimited users, so a bigger team never raises the bill.

Limits

  • Agency accounts don't get the annual discount, so the monthly rate is the real price.
  • SMS is sold only to contracted customers, not on the self-serve plans.
Email marketing for agencies: the best software for client accounts and white label
ActiveCampaign logo

ActiveCampaign

Best for agencies that sell automation

Desk research

Choose it if

Your clients pay you for welcome series, lead scoring and CRM-triggered journeys, and you want to resell the plans at a discount through a partner programme.

Consider Campaign Monitor instead if

You need true client sub-accounts under one agency login. Campaign Monitor includes them on Lite, where ActiveCampaign lists none on any plan.

Why it fits one client account

ActiveCampaign's Agency Partner programme gives resellers a plan discount that grows with account volume, and white labeling is set per account, so each client can see its own logo and colors. Plus adds the custom account domain plus branded forms and landing pages, and Enterprise removes every ActiveCampaign reference for full white label.

The plan I priced

I priced Plus, where automations are unlimited: $59/month billed monthly or $49/mo on annual billing, for one client of a thousand contacts. Starter is cheaper but allows 5 actions per automation. Enterprise, with full white label, is $145/month billed annually at the same list size.

Closest alternative

GetResponse becomes the better choice when you want a reseller route with sub-accounts and your own pricing, and the automation depth of Marketer is enough.

One client account: Plus

Billed annually

$49/mo

Billed monthly

$59/mo

The trade-off

There are no client sub-accounts: each client is a separate account, and full white label needs Enterprise.
What my review says

Best for: An agency whose retainers are built on automated journeys, lead scoring and CRM triggers, reselling the plans through the Agency Partner programme.

Skip it if you want every client under one agency login, because ActiveCampaign runs each client as a separate account.

Strengths

  • Unlimited automation actions from Plus, against 5 actions per automation on Starter.
  • Full white label on Enterprise, with a custom domain and every ActiveCampaign reference removed.

Limits

  • No client sub-accounts on any plan, so each client is its own login and bill.
  • Pro and Enterprise are sold on annual commitments only.

Brevo logo

Brevo

Free start per client

Hands-on

Choose it if

You keep each client in its own account, want to build and test a client's setup before anyone pays, and have clients with large lists they mail only now and then.

Consider Mailchimp instead if

Your clients already sit in Mailchimp and moving them would cost more than the plan difference.

Why it fits one client account

Brevo charges for monthly email volume, and from the bigger sending bands a Starter or Standard account stores up to 500,000 contacts. That keeps a client with a large but quiet list on a small plan, and the free plan gives each new client an account to set up templates and automations before the first invoice.

The plan I priced

The free plan covers this list but caps sending at 300 emails a day and puts the Sent with Brevo footer on every email, which few clients will accept. Standard is the first plan that drops the footer without an add-on. Paid plans step up by monthly email volume, from $9/month billed monthly for Starter's entry band.

Closest alternative

GetResponse becomes the better choice when you want 3 users on the entry plan and a partner programme for reselling sub-accounts.

One client account: Free

Free plan

The trade-off

Sub-account management, one master account over several brands, is an Enterprise feature with sales-quoted pricing, and Brevo's pricing page and feature table have no white-label row.
What my review says

Best for: An agency keeping each client in its own account, setting clients up free and moving them to a paid plan once they send for real.

Skip it if you need client sub-accounts or white label below Enterprise pricing.

Strengths

  • Priced by emails sent, so up to 500,000 stored contacts on Standard don't drive the bill.
  • A free plan to set up each client before billing starts.

Limits

  • Sub-account management is Enterprise only, priced by sales.
  • The free plan's footer and daily cap of 300 emails rule it out for live client sends.
Email marketing for agencies: the best software for client accounts and white label
Mailchimp logo

Mailchimp

Best when clients are already on Mailchimp

Hands-on

Choose it if

Most clients arrive with a Mailchimp account and you would rather manage what they have than migrate them.

Consider GetResponse instead if

You are choosing for a new client. GetResponse Starter holds the same list for $19/month billed monthly, with 3 users.

Why it fits one client account

Mailchimp's multiple-accounts setup gives one username across client accounts while billing and data stay separate per account, and its rules allow it only for agencies and franchises on a paid plan. Agencies connect existing client accounts through Mailchimp & Co, its partner programme, which fits taking over a list a client already built.

The plan I priced

Essentials for a client of a thousand contacts is $26.50/month billed monthly, with 3 users. Mailchimp's compare table lists Essentials automation as "Up to 4 flow steps", so journey work needs Standard. Mailchimp doesn't refund payments outside system faults.

Closest alternative

Brevo becomes the better choice when the client can move and price per account matters more than keeping their history in place.

One client account: Essentials

Billed monthly

$26.50/mo

Above 50,000 subscribers: Standard (+$603.50/mo billed monthly).

The trade-off

Mailchimp's compare table offers no white label: the paid-plan option to remove its branding only strips the footer credit from emails.
What my review says

Best for: An agency inheriting clients who already run on Mailchimp and want to keep their lists and history there.

Skip it if you need your agency's brand on the client view, since Mailchimp lists no white label.

Strengths

  • One login across separate client accounts, with billing kept per account.
  • Mailchimp & Co connects accounts clients already own.

Limits

  • No white label; removing branding only drops the email footer credit.
  • No refunds outside system faults, so a client that leaves mid-month is a sunk cost.

Klaviyo logo

Klaviyo

Best for ecommerce clients

Desk research

Choose it if

Your clients sell through Shopify or WooCommerce and the work is abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows tied to store data.

Consider Campaign Monitor instead if

Your clients are service businesses without a store to sync, where sub-accounts and white label matter more than store data.

Why it fits one client account

Klaviyo wants one account per store or website, each on its own plan, and one login switches between them. A portfolio, set up from a paid account, gives one view across linked accounts, and an agency can be added as a portfolio user, which matches how a store-focused agency already splits its work.

The plan I priced

One store of a thousand active profiles is $30/month billed monthly, with no annual price on the pricing page. The free plan holds 250 profiles, enough to set up flows before a client's store goes live.

Closest alternative

ActiveCampaign becomes the better choice when your clients mix stores and service businesses and you want one platform with CRM pipelines for both.

What my review says

Best for: An agency whose clients are online stores, building flows on synced order and browsing data.

Skip it if your clients don't sell online, since the store sync is most of what you pay for.

Strengths

  • A portfolio view across linked client accounts, with the agency added as a user.
  • A free plan with 250 profiles for building flows before launch.

Limits

  • One account per store, each on its own plan, with no sub-accounts inside a plan.
  • No white-label option on its pricing or partner pages.

GetResponse

Best reseller route

Desk research

Choose it if

You want to package email under your own price list and keep clients in sub-accounts you control.

Consider Campaign Monitor instead if

You want sub-accounts and white label on a self-serve plan without joining a partner programme.

Why it fits one client account

The GetResponse MAX Partnership Program is the resell route: sub-accounts with customized lists and pricing, which an agency can set for each client. Starter includes 3 users, more than most entry plans here, so a small team and the client can share one account.

The plan I priced

One client of a thousand contacts on Starter is $19/month billed monthly, or $15.58/month billed annually. Starter allows 1 custom automation workflow and has no abandoned-cart recovery, so store clients need Marketer.

Closest alternative

ActiveCampaign becomes the better choice when automation depth matters more to your clients than reselling sub-accounts under your own prices.

What my review says

Best for: An agency that wants to resell email under its own pricing through a partner programme with sub-accounts.

Skip it if you need white label without Enterprise, since rebranding options are Enterprise only.

Strengths

  • MAX partnership sub-accounts with lists and pricing you set per client.
  • 3 users on Starter, so a client can log in beside your team.

Limits

  • Rebranding options only on Enterprise, priced on request.
  • Starter allows 1 custom automation workflow.

What one client account really costs

Each bar is one client account of about 1,000 contacts. Brevo's free plan has no bar, because its footer and daily send cap rule it out for live client work. Campaign Monitor is shown at its monthly rate, because its annual discount doesn't cover agency accounts.

ActiveCampaign: priced on Plus. Priced at Plus because Starter allows 5 actions per automation.

Brevo: priced on Free. Free sends 300 emails a day and adds Brevo's footer to client emails; Standard removes the footer.

Pay monthly or yearly?

What yearly billing saves on the same plan.

  • ActiveCampaign$59 monthly, $49 yearly: 17% less
  • GetResponse$19 monthly, $15.58 yearly: 18% less

When you'll outgrow the plan

The first limit you hit, and the next plan up.

  • Campaign Monitor: above 50,000 subscribers, no bigger plan is published
  • Mailchimp: above 50,000 subscribers, Standard (+$603.50/mo)
  • Klaviyo: above 150,000 subscribers, no bigger plan is published
  • GetResponse: above 100,000 subscribers, no bigger plan is published
How I calculated this

Workload: about 10 clients, 1,000 contacts per client, priced per client account, 1 user per account.

Each price is the cheapest plan that holds one client's list of about 1,000 contacts, so ten clients cost about ten times the figure shown. Client accounts and white label sit beside the price instead of ruling a plan out, because every vendor defines them differently. Campaign Monitor's annual discount does not apply to agency accounts, so its monthly price is the one an agency pays.

Other options, and why they missed the list

A tool made this list if it publishes prices you can set against one client account and documents how it handles several clients: sub-accounts, linked accounts or a partner programme. The tools below handle client work too, but through a separate edition, a paid partner tier or a structure that suits a narrower kind of client.

    • Zoho Campaigns logo

      Zoho Campaigns

Sells a separate Agency Edition with an agency console, client invites and licence sharing, on yearly billing only. A good fit if your agency already runs on Zoho apps.

    • Constant Contact logo

      Constant Contact

Runs an Agency Partner Program with a portal for client accounts, and a multi-account setup for teams that need several accounts under one parent. Its tools lean toward small local businesses.

    • HubSpot logo

      HubSpot

Agencies manage clients' own HubSpot accounts through the paid Solutions Partner Program. It makes sense when you sell CRM and sales work, not email alone.

    • MailerLite logo

      MailerLite

Lets you switch between separate client accounts from one login, each with its own plan and billing, but its pricing lists no white label.

    • Omnisend logo

      Omnisend

Holds several stores under one account, but each store is billed on its own subscription. Worth a look for store clients if Klaviyo's per-profile price is too high.

    Who is behind this guide

    Joonas Rotko

I co-ran a marketing agency in Finland and spent more than ten years buying SEO and marketing software with real client budgets. I write these guides for the person who has to pay for the tool and use it.

More about me and how I review

    Affiliate disclosure

Links to Campaign Monitor, ActiveCampaign, Brevo and GetResponse are affiliate links, so I may earn a commission if you buy through one, at no extra cost to you. I have no affiliate link for Mailchimp or Klaviyo, so those picks go straight to the vendor. Campaign Monitor leads because it is the only tool here with sub-accounts and white label on its cheapest paid plan, not because of a commission. A commission never changes a price or a verdict, and having no link never kept a tool off the list.

    How this guide was prepared

    What I did

    • I read every plan, limit and agency feature from the vendor's own pricing pages and help center, and each source is listed below with the day I read it. Prices are worked out from those figures, so a price cannot differ between sections of the page.
    • I fixed one unit first: a client account of about a thousand contacts with one user. Agencies pay per client on every tool here, either as a separate account or a billed sub-account, so this is the figure to multiply by your client count. For each tool I find the cheapest plan that holds that list, on monthly and on annual billing.
    • Client accounts and white label are compared in the table and the cards, in each vendor's own words, instead of being used to rule a plan out. One vendor's sub-account is another's linked login, and a strict yes or no would hide the difference.
    • Hands-on means I use the product myself, and desk research means the review rests on the vendor's published plans and documentation.

    What to keep in mind

    • Plans and prices change without notice, so each source below carries the date I last read it.
    • Campaign Monitor's annual discount does not cover agency accounts, so I show its monthly rate only.
    • ActiveCampaign publishes its reseller discount as a range tied to account volume, so the discount a given agency gets is set by ActiveCampaign, not shown here.
    • Brevo prices by monthly email volume. Its figure is the sending band that holds about a thousand contacts, and a client who sends more moves up a band.

    Questions people ask

What is the best email marketing software for agencies?

Campaign Monitor is my pick for most agencies, because client sub-accounts, private labeling and client billing come on every paid plan. One client account of about a thousand contacts is $47/month billed monthly on Lite. ActiveCampaign is better if automation is what you sell, GetResponse if you want to resell under your own prices, and Klaviyo if your clients are online stores.

Which email marketing platforms offer white label?

Campaign Monitor, ActiveCampaign and GetResponse do, at very different plan levels. Campaign Monitor ticks private labeling on Lite, Essentials and Premier. ActiveCampaign gives a custom account domain and branded forms on Plus and Pro, and full white label on Enterprise. GetResponse lists rebranding options on Enterprise only. Brevo, Mailchimp and Klaviyo list no white-label option on their pricing pages.

How much does email marketing software cost for an agency with ten clients?

Expect to pay per client, so ten clients cost about ten times the per-client price. For a client of about a thousand contacts, GetResponse Starter is $19/month billed monthly, Mailchimp Essentials is $26.50/month billed monthly and Klaviyo is $30/month billed monthly. Campaign Monitor Lite is $47/month billed monthly, and ActiveCampaign Plus is $59/month billed monthly. Brevo's free plan stores the list but sends 300 emails a day with its footer, so client work belongs on a paid plan.

What are client sub-accounts in email marketing software?

A client sub-account is a separate workspace for one client inside an agency's main account, with its own lists, campaigns and reports. Campaign Monitor builds this into every paid plan, and Brevo offers it on Enterprise. ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp and Klaviyo instead run each client as its own account, which you reach from one login or a portfolio view.

Do email marketing tools have partner or reseller programmes for agencies?

Yes, several do. ActiveCampaign's Agency Partner programme gives resellers a plan discount that grows with account volume. GetResponse MAX resells sub-accounts with your own lists and pricing. Mailchimp & Co lets agencies connect client accounts, and Campaign Monitor lets you set a markup on each client's price inside the platform.

Can I use Mailchimp for multiple clients?

Yes, Mailchimp allows agencies and franchises to run several accounts under one login, with billing kept separate for each. It needs a paid plan, and existing client accounts are connected through Mailchimp & Co. Mailchimp lists no white label, so clients see Mailchimp, not your agency.
