Systeme.io offers one of the most generous free plans in the marketing software space. While most platforms give you email or landing pages, Systeme.io bundles funnels, email marketing, courses, websites, automation, and even a blog into a single free account. No credit card required, no trial period.
But is it enough to build a real business on? I signed up for the free plan and tested every feature to find out. Here is exactly what you get, what is limited, and when you would need to upgrade.

What You Get on the Free Plan
The Systeme.io free plan includes features that most competitors charge $50 to $100 per month for. Here is the full breakdown.
Sales Funnels (3 Included)
You get 3 complete sales funnels with multi-step pages. Each funnel can include opt-in pages, thank-you pages, sales pages, and order forms. The funnel builder comes with professional templates and a drag-and-drop editor.
What surprised me is how much functionality is packed into each funnel. You get automation rules, A/B testing, stats tracking, lead management, and deadline settings, all on the free plan. This is the same funnel builder paid users get, just limited to 3 funnels.
For context, ClickFunnels starts at $81 per month for their basic plan. Getting 3 funnels for free is a significant value.

Website Builder (1 Website)
You can build one full website with multiple pages. The builder includes professional templates, and the drag-and-drop editor gives you solid control over layout with text blocks, headlines, images, video, audio, carousels, and column layouts.
The editor is straightforward. It does not try to compete with dedicated website builders, but for a landing page, portfolio, or simple business site, it handles the job well.

Email Marketing (Unlimited Emails)
This is where the free plan gets interesting. You can send unlimited emails to up to 2,000 contacts. Most email marketing platforms cap either the number of emails or contacts on their free tier.
The CRM lets you filter contacts, add tags, manage subscriptions, and segment your audience. You also get newsletter campaigns and email sequences. For a tattoo parlor building their client list or an accounting firm nurturing leads, 2,000 contacts with unlimited sends is plenty to start.

For comparison, Brevo limits you to 300 emails per day on their free plan, and MailerLite caps at 1,000 subscribers with 12,000 monthly emails.

Online Courses (1 Course)
You can create and sell one online course with multiple modules and lectures. The course builder includes theme templates and hosts everything on a Systeme.io subdomain. For a web design studio creating a "DIY Website Basics" course or a fitness coach packaging workout programs, this is a real revenue stream at zero cost.

Automation Rules
The automation builder is available on the free plan with no restrictions on the number of rules. Trigger options include tag-based actions, form submissions, campaign completions, webinar registrations, and more. You can automatically tag contacts, send emails, enroll people in courses, or move them through funnels based on their behavior.
This is a feature that platforms like Kartra and Kajabi charge $99 or more per month to access.

Blog (1 Blog)
You get one blog with the ability to publish unlimited posts. It is basic compared to WordPress, but for someone who wants everything in one platform, it works. The blog integrates directly with your funnels and email list.

SMS Marketing
SMS functionality is included on the free plan through Twilio integration. You can create SMS templates with personalization variables (name, email, etc.) and send text messages to your contacts. You will need a separate Twilio account for sending, but the Systeme.io side of the integration costs nothing extra.

Affiliate Program Management
You can create and run your own affiliate program directly from the free plan. The affiliate dashboard gives you a complete overview of sales, leads, and commissions. You set up commission structures, manage individual affiliates, view performance reports, and handle payouts, all from one screen.
This is a feature that most platforms either charge extra for or do not offer at all. Dedicated affiliate management software like PartnerStack or FirstPromoter can cost $50 to $500 per month. Having it built into a free plan is rare. If you sell courses, digital products, or services, you can let affiliates promote your offers and only pay them when they generate results. A consulting firm could set up referral commissions for partner agencies, or a course creator could build a network of affiliates driving enrollments.

Additional Free Features
Beyond the core features, you also get:
- Payment processing (Stripe and PayPal integration)
- Order bumps and upsells
- Coupon codes
- Deadline funnels for urgency
- Custom domains
- 1 community space
What Is Limited on the Free Plan
The free plan is generous, but it has clear boundaries. Here is what you should know before committing.
Contact Cap: 2,000
This is the biggest limitation. Once you hit 2,000 contacts, you will need to upgrade to the Startup plan ($27 per month) for 5,000 contacts. For a food truck collecting customer emails or a new consulting firm building their prospect list, 2,000 contacts can last months or even a year. But if you are running paid ads to a funnel, you could hit this limit faster than expected.
Funnel Limit: 3
Three funnels sounds restrictive, but most businesses starting out only need one or two. A lead magnet funnel and a sales funnel cover most use cases. You will feel this limit when you want to test different offers or run seasonal campaigns.
Systeme.io Branding
Your published pages show a "Powered by systeme.io" badge in the bottom corner. It is small and not intrusive, but it is there. Removing it requires a paid plan. For personal projects or early-stage businesses, this is a minor trade-off. For a law firm or established brand, it might feel unprofessional.

One Website, One Course, One Blog, One Community
You are limited to one of each. If you run multiple brands or want separate courses for different audiences, you will need to upgrade. For most solopreneurs and small businesses starting out, one of each is sufficient.
No Evergreen Webinars
Webinar functionality is reserved for the Webinar plan ($47 per month) and above. If webinars are core to your strategy, the free plan will not cover it.
Who the Free Plan Is Perfect For
The Systeme.io free plan works best for people who are just getting started and need multiple tools without the cost.
Course creators launching their first product. You get a course platform, sales funnel, email marketing, and payment processing in one place. A music school could package beginner guitar lessons, build a funnel, collect emails, and start selling without paying for separate tools.
Solopreneurs testing a business idea. If you are not sure your offer will work, Systeme.io lets you build a complete funnel, collect leads, and sell products without investing hundreds of dollars in software. Build, test, and validate before spending money.
Coaches and consultants building their first funnel. A florist expanding into online workshops or a freelance web designer offering a paid consultation funnel can set everything up on the free plan. One funnel, one email sequence, one course is all you need to start generating revenue.
Small businesses replacing multiple tools. If you are currently paying for separate email marketing, landing pages, and a course platform, Systeme.io consolidates everything. A staffing agency running recruitment funnels could replace three subscriptions with one free account.
When You Will Need to Upgrade
Here are the realistic triggers that will push you to a paid plan.
Your email list passes 2,000 contacts. This is the most common upgrade trigger. The Startup plan at $27 per month gives you 5,000 contacts, which is still very affordable compared to ActiveCampaign or GetResponse at similar contact levels.
You need more than 3 funnels. If you are running multiple offers, lead magnets, or client campaigns, 3 funnels will not be enough. The Startup plan bumps this to 10.
You want to remove branding. Once your business looks established and you want a more professional appearance, removing the "Powered by systeme.io" badge requires a paid plan.
You need evergreen webinars. The Webinar plan ($47 per month) unlocks automated webinar funnels. If webinars are a core part of your marketing, this is the plan to target.

Free Plan vs. Paid Plans at a Glance
The jump from Free to Startup at $27 per month is one of the best value upgrades in the marketing software space. You get 5x the funnels, 5x the websites, and branding removal for less than what most tools charge for email alone.
How It Compares to Other Free Plans
Most marketing platforms offer a free tier, but none of them bundle this many features together.
Systeme.io vs. free email tools: Moosend and Sender offer generous free email plans, but they do not include funnels, courses, or website builders. If email is all you need, those are excellent options. If you want the full toolkit, Systeme.io wins.
Systeme.io vs. ClickFunnels: ClickFunnels has no free plan at all. Their cheapest option starts at $81 per month. Getting 3 funnels free on Systeme.io is hard to beat.
Systeme.io vs. Builderall: Builderall also does not offer a free plan. Their basic plan starts around $17 per month, but their interface is more complex.
Systeme.io vs. Kartra: Kartra starts at $99 per month. Their platform is more polished, but the price difference is massive for someone starting out.
Systeme.io vs. GoHighLevel: GoHighLevel targets agencies and starts at $97 per month. If you are a solo creator or small business, Systeme.io is the better fit.

My Verdict: Is the Free Plan Enough?
Yes, for most people starting out. The Systeme.io free plan is not a stripped-down trial. It is a fully functional platform that gives you the core tools to build a funnel, grow an email list, sell products, and even launch a course.
The 2,000-contact limit is the only real constraint that will eventually force an upgrade, and by the time you reach that number, your business should be generating enough revenue to justify the $27 per month Startup plan.
If you are spending $0 on marketing software right now and want to build something real, Systeme.io is one of the best places to start. Read my full Systeme.io Review for a deeper look at the platform, or check out Systeme.io Alternatives if you want to compare options before deciding.
