How to Use Systeme.io with Claude: Free-Plan MCP Setup

Systeme.io ships an official MCP server that works on the free plan. Here is how to connect it to Claude (and Claude Code): generate a key, paste the server URL, and let Claude manage your contacts, tags, and newsletters by chat.

Most marketing platforms that ship an MCP server gate it behind a paid plan. Systeme.io does not: you can connect your account to Claude on the free plan, the same tier that gives you 2,000 contacts and unlimited emails at no cost. That makes this the lowest-friction way to try running an AI agent against a real marketing tool. I verified every step below on July 8, 2026, including creating a key on a free account.

If MCP is new: it is the open standard that lets Claude operate software directly instead of you clicking through dashboards. Background is in my API vs MCP vs CLI explainer. This is the hands-on version for one tool.

What can Claude do with Systeme.io connected?

This is a write-capable connection, not a read-only data feed. Claude can manage the core of your online business through conversation:

  • Contacts: list, find, create, update, and delete, with filters.
  • Tags: create and manage tags, and assign or remove them from contacts.
  • Custom fields: read your custom contact fields so Claude maps data correctly.
  • Newsletters: create, update, and review drafts (deleting them still has to happen in the dashboard).
  • Funnels: create and retrieve opt-in funnel steps.

Prompts I would actually use:

  • Find every contact tagged "webinar-noshow" and add the tag "followup-sequence".
  • Create a contact from these details and tag them as a warm lead.
  • Draft a newsletter announcing the new course and save it so I can review it in Systeme.
  • Which of my contacts are missing a first name in their custom fields?

The list-hygiene and tagging tasks are where this earns its keep: the kind of work that is tedious in a dashboard and one sentence in a chat.

How to connect Systeme.io to Claude

Two steps. First, generate a key in Systeme.io:

  • Click your profile picture, then Settings, then MCP & API keys in the left menu.
  • Scroll to the MCP keys section and click Create.
  • Give it a name (something like "claude"), set an expiration date, and save.
  • Copy the key immediately. Systeme.io shows it once, and you cannot see it again after leaving the page.

Then add it to Claude as a custom connector, using this server URL with your key substituted in:

https://mcp.systeme.io/mcp?mcpKey=YOUR_KEY

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, click Add custom connector, name it Systeme.io, paste that URL, and connect. That is the whole setup. Two housekeeping facts: you can hold at most two keys at once, and each key is valid for 90 days, so set a reminder to rotate it. Systeme.io has said OAuth support is planned, which will remove the expiry step once it ships.

How to connect Systeme.io to Claude Code

One command, with your key in the URL:

claude mcp add --transport http systeme "https://mcp.systeme.io/mcp?mcpKey=YOUR_KEY"

The key can also travel in an X-MCP-Key header instead of the URL if your setup prefers that. Systeme.io documents ChatGPT as well, so if your team lives there rather than in Claude, the same key and server URL apply through ChatGPT's connector settings.

Treat that key like a password

The MCP key gives full read and write access to your contacts and account. Systeme.io flags this directly in the dashboard, and it is worth repeating: never paste the key into a public repo, a screenshot, or a shared doc. If it leaks, revoke it from the same settings page and generate a new one. The 90-day expiry is a safety net, not a substitute for treating it carefully.

Honest limits

  • API-key auth, not OAuth yet. You manage a key with a 90-day expiry rather than a one-click sign-in. OAuth is on the roadmap.
  • Funnels are opt-in only. Claude can build opt-in steps, not full multi-step sales funnels. Complex funnels still live in the visual builder.
  • Write access means review before you trust. Claude can delete contacts and change tags. Watch what it proposes before letting it run bulk operations.
  • Rate limits apply. The server caps requests per window and returns 429 when exceeded, so a heavy automated loop needs pacing.

Verdict

Systeme.io's MCP earned a 7/10 agent-readiness score from me, and the free-plan access is what makes it stand out. Most tools ask you to pay before an agent can touch them; Systeme.io lets you wire a real marketing platform into Claude for nothing, then upgrade only when your business does. If you have wanted to try agent-driven marketing without a subscription commitment, this is the place to start.

My full take on the platform is in the Systeme.io review, and the plan breakdown is in the Systeme.io pricing guide.
