My take on Resend pricing

Joonas Rotko

Resend's pricing is refreshingly straightforward until you hit the overages. $0.90 per 1,000 emails beyond your plan limit adds up fast. A 100-email daily cap on the free transactional plan feels restrictive for anything beyond basic testing. The marketing side charges per contact, which works if you send frequently but punishes occasional senders. What's unusual: no annual discounts. Most email services offer 15-20% savings for yearly commitments, but Resend sticks to monthly-only billing.

The Resend API integration is solid for developers, and the MCP server support means you can plug this directly into Claude or ChatGPT workflows. But compared to MailerLite or Brevo , you're paying a premium for developer-first features that marketing teams might not need.

Verdict

Is Resend Worth the Price?

Resend excels at what it's designed for: reliable transactional email delivery with excellent developer experience. The React email templates and TypeScript SDK are helpful if you're building apps. But marketing teams will find better value elsewhere.

No annual discounts, expensive overage rates, and contact-based pricing for campaigns make this pricier than alternatives like EmailOctopus or Moosend . Choose Resend if you need rock-solid transactional delivery and developer-friendly tools.

Skip it if you're primarily doing email marketing campaigns.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

No, Resend only offers monthly billing with no annual discount options.

You pay overage rates: $0.90 per 1,000 emails on Pro plans, with rates decreasing on higher-volume Scale plans.

Technically yes, but it's against terms of service. Use marketing plans for campaigns and newsletters.

Only on the free transactional plan (100 emails/day). All paid plans have no daily limits.

Not required, but available as an add-on for Scale plans or included with Enterprise.

Transactional charges per email sent, marketing charges per contact stored (with unlimited sends to those contacts).

These are separate products with different pricing structures. You'd need separate accounts or contact sales for hybrid needs.
