What is the HasData MCP server?

HasData runs an official MCP server at mcp.hasdata.com/mcp over streamable HTTP. A tools/list call returns exactly 57 tools, covering Google search, Maps, News, Trends, Shopping, AI Mode and AI Overview, plus Amazon, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Yelp, Yellow Pages, Zillow, Redfin, Indeed, Glassdoor, Booking, Airbnb and Shopify, and one general web scraping tool.

The tool descriptions are the strongest part. Each documents parameter semantics, pagination tokens and expiry windows, so an agent can choose the right call without a human explaining the API first. The AI Overview tool states outright that its page token is valid for four minutes.

It is an auto-generated surface rather than a designed one. The server reports that its tools are generated from an endpoints file, results arrive as a raw HTTP envelope of url, status, json and text that the agent has to unwrap, and one tool name was hash-truncated by the generator to fit the 64-character limit.

Access, auth, and limits

Authentication accepts either an x-api-key header or OAuth. The API key path works immediately: the key is provisioned on signup and needs no separate MCP setup.

An unauthenticated request returns a correct 401 carrying a WWW-Authenticate challenge, the mcp:tools scope and a resource_metadata pointer to the OAuth discovery document. That is the specified behaviour and it is rarer than it should be, so a 401 here is proof the endpoint exists rather than a sign it is missing.

Error handling at the MCP layer is better than at the REST layer. A call with a missing required argument came back as a readable 422 naming the failing field, where the REST API returns a bare 400 with no message.

Where it works and what to build

HasData links integration guides for CLI, MCP Server, OpenClaw, Agent Skill and n8n directly from the API Keys page in the dashboard, which is a clear signal about the workflows it expects to serve.

Because the server is remote streamable HTTP with standard auth, it fits the usual remote-MCP setup rather than needing a local bridge process.

How to connect HasData MCP to Claude Desktop

Add this block to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (macOS) or %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json (Windows), then restart Claude Desktop. Cursor and Codex use a similar schema.

// HTTP-transport MCP. Get your <YOUR_MCP_URL> from the vendor dashboard.
// Server source: https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp
// Claude Code (one-liner): claude mcp add hasdata <YOUR_MCP_URL> --transport http

Some MCP servers require an API key. Check the source page for setup: mcp.hasdata.com/mcp.

Does HasData MCP cost extra?

Included with subscription

HasData ships an official MCP server that uses your existing subscription credentials.

  • No separate MCP licence to buy. You pay for your HasData plan, the MCP server queries that account.
  • Whether it's gated to a specific tier wasn't extracted automatically — verify the access requirements on the MCP page or pricing docs.

HasData also publishes a REST API

HasData publishes an API, but per-tier gating wasn't extracted automatically.

What you can do with HasData from an AI agent

Three shapes of agent workflow. Pick the row that matches how you actually use Claude / Cursor / Codex day to day.

INDIE / SOLO

Skip the dashboard, ask Claude

  • "What keywords moved this week?" answered in seconds
  • Quick one-off questions without leaving the editor
  • Pipe HasData data into your personal notes / docs without writing a script
Effort: 30 seconds — paste the config, restart Claude
AGENCY

Run client analysis at agent speed

  • Hand the MCP server to your team — every consultant can ask Claude about any client's HasData account
  • Multi-account workflows without context-switching the HasData UI
  • Reports you'd normally spend hours on, done before standup
Effort: An afternoon — set up auth per client
IN-HOUSE TEAM

Production agent workflows

  • Embed in your internal Codex / Cursor agents that triage HasData data daily
  • Combine with other MCP servers in a multi-step agent chain
  • Constrain agents to read-only roles to keep production HasData safe
Effort: Days — security review + role config

Limits and gotchas

  • Official MCP server — published by HasData themselves, so it should track product changes.
  • Fallback: the REST API works for any flow the MCP server doesn't cover.
  • Rate limits: MCP calls count against your underlying HasData API quota. Burst usage from a curious agent can drain a daily allowance fast.
