The Verdict

Is ManyChat right for you?

ManyChat is a social-first chat marketing automation tool built around Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS. Its strength is capturing leads inside social channels: keyword triggers, comment-to-DM automation and flow-based qualifying sequences. For a lead-capture roundup it earns a place, but with a clear caveat.

It is great at DM and comment capture and weaker as a true website chatbot, so the right way to judge it is by where your leads actually come from. It suits creators, e-commerce brands and social-heavy marketers.

If your leads come from Instagram and Messenger, ManyChat is hard to beat: comment-to-DM automation, keyword triggers and a deep integration ecosystem make social-DM capture its core competence.

The honest caveats are that it is not designed as a website lead-capture chatbot (the site widget is a higher-tier feature), real intent-based AI is a paid add-on rather than bundled, and qualification is flow and rules driven by default.

ManyChat moved to a contact-based pricing model in March 2026: you pay by active contacts, not features alone. The shape: Free (up to 25 contacts), then paid from around $15/month , scaling on contact count up through Business (around $69/mo) and Elite (around $139/mo). ManyChat AI is a separate add-on at around $29/month, and WhatsApp and SMS carry separate Meta and carrier fees.

Who It's For

The right fit (and the wrong one)

Best for

  • +
Instagram and Messenger marketers Comment-to-DM automation and keyword triggers are best-in-class for turning social engagement into captured leads.
  • +
Creators and social-heavy brands If your audience and traffic live on social, ManyChat meets leads where they already are instead of pulling them to a website.
  • +
E-commerce stores Strong Shopify and Klaviyo integration (Pro and up) ties DM capture to your store and email flows.
  • +
Teams that want a big integration ecosystem Zapier, HubSpot, Salesforce and more connect ManyChat to the rest of your stack, mostly through Zapier or native connectors on higher tiers.

Skip this if

  • Website-first lead capture ManyChat is built around social channels; the website widget is a higher-tier feature, not the core, so a dedicated website chatbot fits better.
  • Teams wanting AI included Real intent-based AI is a paid add-on at around $29/month, not part of the base plans, which are rules and flow driven.
  • B2B teams needing deep native CRM CRM connections lean on Zapier or higher-tier native integrations, so heavy B2B routing can feel indirect.
  • Teams that want all-in, predictable pricing Cost scales with your active-contact count, and the real AI features are a separate add-on, so a growing list plus AI climbs faster than the entry price suggests.

Features

What can ManyChat do?

ManyChat is built around social channels, and its best work happens there. On Instagram and Facebook it turns engagement into captured leads with keyword triggers and comment-to-DM automation: someone comments a keyword, ManyChat opens a DM and starts a qualifying sequence. Growth Tools (widgets, landing pages, QR codes, referral links) add more capture surfaces, and tags plus custom fields let you segment what you collect.

The qualification engine is a flow builder with branching sequences, broadcasts and drip messages. By default this is rules and flow driven: the bot follows the logic you build rather than interpreting intent on its own. ManyChat AI (intent recognition, AI Steps in flows, auto-replies, text generation) adds the smarter layer, but it is a paid add-on at around $29/month, not part of the base plans.

Meeting booking is not native; you wire Calendly or Google Calendar through Zapier.

Channels are the thing to map against your funnel. Instagram and Messenger are the core; WhatsApp, SMS and the website widget arrive on higher tiers, and WhatsApp and SMS carry separate Meta and carrier fees. The integration ecosystem is large: Shopify (Pro and up), Zapier, HubSpot, Google Sheets, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp and Salesforce, with e-commerce being the strongest fit and native B2B lighter.

UX & Support

Is ManyChat easy to use?

ManyChat is approachable for a social marketer. Building a comment-to-DM flow or a keyword trigger is visual and does not need code, and the flow builder is one of the more refined in the category. For a creator or small e-commerce team, getting a first capture flow live is quick.

Support scales with plan, up to priority support on Business. Documentation covers the flow builder and the REST API, and the large community plus integration ecosystem fills gaps. There is no general free trial, so the free plan (up to 25 contacts) is how you test before paying.

Pricing

How much does ManyChat cost?

ManyChat is free to use.

ManyChat moved to a contact-based pricing model in March 2026: you pay by the number of active contacts you message, not by features alone. There is a free plan to start, then paid tiers that scale with your contact count, with the AI features sitting in a separate paid add-on.

Here is how it scales: a Free plan (up to 25 active contacts, Instagram and Messenger only, basic flows), Essential from around $15/month (around 250 contacts, 2 channels), Pro from around $15/month at 500 contacts and scaling up toward $199/month at higher thresholds (3 channels including WhatsApp and SMS, A/B testing, Shopify), Business around $69/month (up to about 7,500 contacts, unlimited channels, priority support), and Elite from around $139/month (around 25,000 contacts) or custom.

Overage runs roughly $0.018 to $0.10 per contact.

Two cost factors matter beyond the tier. ManyChat AI is a separate add-on at around $29/month, so the real AI experience is not in the base price. And WhatsApp and SMS carry separate Meta and carrier fees on top of your plan. There is no general free trial; the free plan is the sandbox.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Not primarily. ManyChat is social-first , built around Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS. It has a website widget, but that sits on higher tiers and is not the core. For website-first lead capture, a dedicated website chatbot is a better fit.

ManyChat uses contact-based pricing: a Free plan (up to 25 contacts), then paid from around $15/month , scaling on contact count up through Business (around $69/mo) and Elite (around $139/mo). Real intent-based AI is a separate add-on at around $29/month.

Only as a paid add-on. ManyChat AI (intent recognition, AI Steps, auto-replies, text generation) costs around $29/month on top of your plan. The base plans are rules and flow driven, so the real AI experience is not bundled.

ManyChat has a public REST API with API-key auth covering contacts, tags, custom fields, flows and messaging (rate limit around 10 req/sec). It hosts no official MCP server ; community wrappers around the REST API exist (a PyPI manychat-mcp-server, Zapier, Composio, viaSocket), each needing your own token.

Not natively. You connect Calendly or Google Calendar through Zapier to handle scheduling. Meeting booking is an integration rather than a built-in feature.

Pricing scales on active contacts across a five-tier ladder, which is predictable in shape: a free plan, then paid tiers that grow with your contact count. ManyChat moved to this contact-based model in March 2026. Note that WhatsApp and SMS carry separate Meta and carrier fees on top of your plan.

ManyChat AI exists (intent recognition, AI Steps in flows, auto-replies, text generation) but it is a paid add-on, not bundled, so the base experience is rules-driven. On the integration side there is a public REST API but no official MCP server, only community wrappers, so an external agent cannot natively drive ManyChat.

Contacts, tags and custom fields are reachable through the public REST API, and a large integration ecosystem (Zapier, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Salesforce) makes moving data workable. The contact-based pricing model means your contact list size, not just message volume, is the thing to track when you plan a move.
