Does Ghost MCP cost extra?
The Ghost MCP server is community-built — free to run, but you still pay for your Ghost subscription.
- Community MCPs are normally self-hosted from a GitHub repo. There's no extra license fee.
- Your Ghost account still needs whatever plan is required to access the data the MCP server queries.

Limits and gotchas
- Community MCP — not maintained by Ghost. Check the README and last-update date before depending on it.
- Fallback: the REST API works for any flow the MCP server doesn't cover.
- Auth flow: MCP servers usually inherit the underlying API auth method (api-key). Expect to configure that on first install.
- Rate limits: MCP calls count against your underlying Ghost API quota. Burst usage from a curious agent can drain a daily allowance fast.

Moderate agent-fit with community support but limited automation depth. Ghost has a documented API with Node.js SDK and an active community MCP server, giving agents read/write access to content and members. The absence of webhooks, structured outputs, and an official OpenAPI spec means agents can't react to platform events or reliably parse complex responses, limiting real-time automation workflows.
